YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- Gen. Curtis M. Scaparrotti, Commander of United Nations Command, R.O.K.-U.S. Combined Forces Command, and U.S. Forces Korea, visited the U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan Library to read Thanksgiving stories to local children, Nov 23.

The general read two books about the Turkey themed holiday to approximately 70 children from the community. The kids sat quietly and listened as Scaparrotti read aloud and displayed the pages from the colorfully illustrated books. Some of the youngest in the group frequently crept closer to the general as he read, to get a better look at the fun pictures.

When storytime was over, the group was served a spread of traditional American Thanksgiving dishes, alongside some Korean staples.

"The event ended in a good way and it had a good cause; to think about the meaning of thanksgiving and share some food to maintain a tight relationship with each other," Scaparrotti said. "A lot of people showed up to this event. I wish for the community to hold some more of these sorts of events, since it clearly had a great impact on those who attended."

Thanksgiving Storytime is an annual event at the Yongsan Library. The next holiday story event is the Christmas Story Hour with USAG Yongsan Garrison Commander Col. Michael E. Masley, on Tuesday, 3 Dec at 1030 in the library. The event is open to all children and their families in the Yongsan community.
