BUDAPEST, Hungary -- Christmas is a time of giving. And Patricia Varga is giving it all she's got.
For more than 20 years Varga has been working at the Harvest Generation Foundation, an organization that assists orphanages in a small, poor community outside of Budapest.
This year, she said, has been the hardest.
Without donations from the public, the 80 children currently living in the facility may not have a Christmas at all.
Varga reached out to a few friends in the military group, Protestant Women of the Chapel, to ask for donations.
Although the group had already partnered with another charity this holiday, family member Destiny Ingram agreed take on the project herself.
"It breaks my heart to think of any child in a country that celebrates the Yuletide going without something small for Christmas," said Ingram.
Ingram is collecting donations from the community and intends to mail the bounty in early December, in hopes that each child has something to open on Christmas morning.
Suggested items of donation include snack mixes (like trail mix), socks, underwear, clothing, small trinket toys, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other toiletry items.
Monetary donations, which will be used to help cover shipping costs, are also welcome.
