FORT LEE, Va. (Sept. 12, 2013) -- Volpe Hall is scheduled for renovation beginning next month to make way for a Paralegal Course relocation.

Located adjacent to the Provost Marshal Office, the structure is scheduled for a phased $1.5 million project that will convert it to classrooms and administrative offices, said Master Sgt. Corey L. Brann, Paralegal Course director.

"It will have five classrooms, a mock courtroom, computer lab, a functioning law library and administrative space for the cadre," he said. The project is scheduled for completion in the later part of next year, he added.

The Volpe building, which most recently served as the 530th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion headquarters, is roughly 15,000 square feet.

Currently, the Paralegal Course conducts classes in four trailer facilities located near the area of the Aerial Delivery and Field Services Department building.

"We will continue to train in the trailers," said Brann, "but once the renovation is completed, we will begin a phased move to the new facility."

An element of the Judge Advocate General Legal Center and School in Charlottesville, the 10-week Paralegal Course relocated to Fort Lee last year from Fort Jackson, S.C. It falls under the Quartermaster School for support.

To his recollection, Brann said this is the first time the Paralegal Course will have a dedicated facility. It shared facilities at Fort Jackson and Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind., its home prior to Fort Jackson.

"It will be the beginning of a whole new legacy," said Brann.

Volpe Hall is named for quartermaster hall of famer Col. Joseph J. Volpe. There are no plans to change the name, said Brann.
