SCHWEINFURT, Germany (Aug. 29, 2013) -- U.S. Army Garrison Schweinfurt's lone Soldier recreation area and restaurant at Ledward Barracks here will close Aug. 31 and shift all its services and programs to Conn Barracks.

The Warrior Zone is geared toward single Soldiers, which provides food, gaming, free Wi-Fi and comfortable seating. All Better Opportunities for Single Soldier, or BOSS, services and programs will continue to be offered at Conn Barracks at the Finney Recreation Center, according to Silvia Joiner, the garrison's advisor to BOSS.

The closure comes as part of a greater plan to consolidate facilities in support of the drawdown and eventual closure of the garrison here.

BOSS is a program that supports the overall quality of life for single and unaccompanied Soldiers.

The Warrior Zone had been a hub for Soldiers residing at or visiting Ledward Barracks. But in the past year, garrison and tenant unit leaders have moved many Soldiers from Ledward to Conn to support the closure. Now, nearly 95 percent of all Soldiers residing in barracks-style housing live at Conn Barracks.

With a higher concentration of service members located at Conn, the move supports closure efforts while maintaining services to Soldiers.

All furniture and equipment will be moved from the Warrior Zone to Finney Recreation Center throughout the month of August. Anything that isn't able to fit will be taken to another garrison's Warrior Zone, Joiner said.

Along with programs and services continuing as normal, Ramon's Sports Bar & Grill will now serve as the food and beverage option.

The usage of these services will determine whether the hours will remain unchanged or be increased in the future.

"We are here to serve Soldiers until closure, but please be aware that the utilization of these services will dictate hours of operation," Joiner said.
