SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii (July 26, 2013) -- A fun-filled evening is planned for families at the annual National Night Out celebration to be held 4 p.m., Aug. 6, at the Kaena Community Center, here.
The festivities kick off with a parade of exhibitors and ends with a movie on the lawn at 7 p.m., so bring your chairs and blankets.
Local award-winning entertainer Henry Kapono headlines a full schedule of live entertainment, and more fun can be found at the bounce houses and glitter tattoo booth.
Exciting exhibits, demonstrations and activities promoting safety within homes and in the community will be showcased by Island Palm Communities, U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii and its Directorate of Emergency Services.
Kids are encouraged to ride their bikes to the event and test their skills navigating a cool bike rodeo course, and parents can get their keiki fingerprinted and introduce their little ones to McGruff the Crime Dog and Eddie the Eagle.
Staff and volunteers from the Neighborhood Watch program will be on hand with important safety tips and news about initiatives.
To sweeten things up, a Pineapple Dessert Contest will be held with cash prizes awarded to the top three entries.
National Night Out has been held across the country for 30 years to heighten safety awareness and promote police-community partnerships and crime prevention. This event brings communities together.
