YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- Korea America Friendship Society held its 22nd anniversary reception to honor a group of individuals for their continuous efforts to increase the ROK-US alliance during 2013 Korea America Friendship Night in the grand ballroom at the Seoul Grand Hyatt, June 27.

"It's an honor to be here to recognize these outstanding individuals," said Han, Chul Soo, President of Korea America Friendship Society. "Their services have contributed to a stronger relationship between the ROK-US alliances."

Commemoration remarks were given by Kim Kyou-hyun, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Sung Y. Kim, U.S. Ambassador to Korea, and Gen. Kwon Oh Sung, Deputy commander for CFC.

"I would like to congratulate this year's Korea-America Friendship award recipients," said Gen. Kwon, Oh Sung. "I commend you all for your service and dedication at the forefront of our freedom."

During the ceremony, the awardees received a certificate of appreciation and a medal for their continuous efforts throughout the year to increase the ROK-US alliance. They are: Staff Sgt. Hun Lee Rosenberry, Tech Sgt. Katrina Pierce, Petty Officer 3rd Class Kristina Thuemler, Staff Sgt Jania Y. Tung and Marilyn McCallum Roseborough (Dept. of the Army Civilian).

"We are moving toward 'Comprehensive Strategic Alliance' to materialize the values of freedom and peace by broadening our roles and responsibilities to Asia Pacific regions world peace," Sung said.

During his comments, Gen. James D. Thurman, commander of UNC/CFC/USFK, proposed a toast to thank the recipients and attendees.

"Many people aren't aware of or don't know how much our services have benefited this great country," Thurman said. "It is my honor to thank all of the recipients for a job well done and (thank) everyone for attending tonight's ceremony."

The ceremony ended with a musical operatic performance by Kim, Dong Kyu; Kim,Jee- Hyun; Han, Songi; Choi, Hyejin;Yi Soon; Lee, Hyan; and Lee, Wonyong.
