Rock Island, Ill. - The U.S. Army Material Command's Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics and Operations had an opportunity June 17 to fire the M14 Enhanced Battle Rifle that is being assembled by the Weapons Product Support Integration Directorate of the TACOM Life Cycle Management Command.

Maj. Gen. James H. Pillsbury, who hit a dime at 100 yards on his second shot, described the M14EBR as a "huge success story" and commented on the excitement and pride he saw in the TACOM LCMC team during his stop at the Keith L. Ware Test Facility.

Pillsbury was at Rock Island Arsenal to attend the U.S. Army Sustainment Command Commanders' Conference.

According to Bruce Stout, Director of the Weapons PSID, the M14EBR will provide a cost effective solution to the Army's need in the Global War on Terrorism for a larger caliber squad rifle effective out to 800 yards.

The M14EBR features a highly machined aluminum stock with upper, lower, and side accessory rails, adjustable comb, and adjustable buttstock length; a Harris bipod; vertical pistol grip; and a Leupold variable power scope. A TACOM team has assembled more than 400 rifles, and a contract award for another 2,300 of the components was recently awarded.
