  • The 207th Military Intelligence Brigade (MIB) Theater conducts intelligence analysis, collection, and exploitation in support of Southern European Task Force-Africa (SETAF-AF) and U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) in order to set the intelligence architecture for the theater, disrupt trans-national and trans-regional threats and promote regional stability in Africa while building and maintaining intelligence readiness.

    2D Theater Signal Brigade

SETAF-AF leads and participates in multiple exercises every year, including African Lion, U.S. Africa Command's premier exercise on the continent.

Exercises build U.S. and partner militaries' readiness for contingency operations and enable interoperability. These exercises train and test command and control systems, fire and maneuver tactics, and medical techniques for the U.S. and African partner forces.

African Lion

African Lion is a multinational, combined, joint exercise led by U.S. Army's Southern European Task Force, on behalf of U.S. Africa Command.

Justified Accord

Justified Accord is U.S. Africa Command’s largest annual joint combined exercise in East Africa. Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) leads this joint, all-domain exercise in East Africa to promote interoperability between participants for peacekeeping operations in East Africa and build partner capacity to disrupt malign influence, aggression, and activity.

Medical Readiness Exercises (MEDREX Africa)

Medical Readiness Exercises are planned and executed by the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) to build partnerships and increase interoperability and strengthen treatment capabilities between the U.S. and African partners. These three-week exercises allow both the U.S. and African military medical personnel to exchange best practices, learn each others' procedures and techniques and result in lasting partnerships between military medical professionals.

Exercise Shared Accord, planned and executed by the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), is an annual bilateral exercise designed to promote security cooperation and interoperability between the United States and African partners.

About us

SETAF-AF is responsible for coordinating all U.S. Army activities in Africa in support of U.S. Africa Command and U.S. Army Europe and Africa. U.S Army activities include military readiness exercises across the continent, security force assistance engagements, crisis response and enduring posture support. These activities strengthen partner networks in Africa, build partner capacity against regional and global security threats and provide strategic access for U.S. forces in contingency operations.

    The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army's Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable forces to the United States European, African, and Central Command areas of responsibility. Forward deployed across Italy and Germany, the brigade routinely trains alongside NATO allies and partners to build partnerships and strengthen the alliance.

    In July, SETAF-AF conducted 2 MEDREXAfrica exercises - in Burundi and Angola and welcomed incoming Commanding General Maj. Gen. Andrew Gainey. 4th Squadron, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade jumped from a C-130J Super Hercules over Cpl. Emmanuel Hernandez Drop Zone, Grafenwoehr Training Area, while back in Italy, USAG-Italy, and 207th Military Intelligence Brigade-Theater in collaboration with the Italian Army held a renaming ceremony for Longare—Caserma Matteo Miotto—naming the base after Corporal Major Miotto, who was killed in action in Afghanistan.

    Saber Junction 24 is a multinational rotational exercise designed to assess the readiness of the U.S. Army's 173rd Airborne Brigade to execute unified land operations in a joint, combined environment and to promote interoperability with more than 4,500 participants from the U.S. and Allied and partner nations at Hohenfels training area.

    The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army's Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable forces to the United States European, African, and Central Command areas of responsibility. Forward deployed across Italy and Germany, the brigade routinely trains alongside NATO allies and partners to build partnerships and strengthen the alliance.
