YONGSAN, REPUBLIC OF KOREA-People who serve the community deserve a good relaxing time away from their workplace. In Yongsan, that break was offered during Right Arm Night held at the R&R Bar and Grill, Mar. 22.

Right Arm Night is an Army tradition, promoting camaraderie and esprit de corps. Leaders come together with those standing to their right -- those who help them get through the missions -- to build relationships in a relaxing setting. The event is not held regularly, but is spreading and it is creating lively mood among garrison personnel.

"This is definitely a good event. I'm here tonight with my co-workers to socialize and get to know each other a little better in a pleasurable atmosphere," said Mike Napley, a teacher at Seoul American high school. "This event is a good opportunity to meet people from other places of the base. So, I think this is a great tradition and we must continue with it."

As in Napley's case, attendees of the night were not just from military service. Some came from various fields, highlighting the purpose of the event --harmony and relationships.

The light hearted mood also allowed garrison co-workers a chance to get to know each, creating a stronger bond which coordinators believe will lead to higher job performance.

Preparing for the party was not an easy come-and-see job. Scheduling the event to facilitate a high turn-out and organizing all food preperations was a lot of work.

"We were all happy to be given a chance to support the garrison," said Ron Buss, business operations division chief for MWR Yongsan. "This is a traditional event that basically thanks people who provide sincere service to the community, and we are planning to do this again and again, because it is the right thing."
