DETROIT ARSENAL, Mich. -- James V. Jackson, Senior Congressional Liaison, Office of Congressman Gary Peters, was the guest speaker at the Detroit Arsenal Black History Month observance held February 14. This year's theme was "At the Crossroads of Freedom and Equality: The Emancipation Proclamation and the March on Washington."

Mistress of Ceremonies Barbara Stallworth welcomed the audience and introduced Wayne Davidson, Project Manager, Ground Combat Vehicles, who sang the National Anthem, and TACOM Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC) Chaplain Lt. Col. Stephen P. DeMien, who delivered the invocation. Timothy Tarczynski, TACOM Deputy Chief of Staff for Human Capital, G-1, introduced the guest speaker and also provided closing remarks.

Jackson spoke about the role that the Emancipation Proclamation, the March on Washington, and other events during the last 150 years have played in leading us to where we are today "at the crossroads of freedom and equality." He urged audience members to be active in their communities to help fulfill what President Lincoln and Dr. Martin Luther King intended many years ago.

"Therefore, my friends, as we prepare to leave this hall," Jackson said, "let us not only recognize these landmark achievements in our nation's history, but let us also recommit ourselves to doing our part in realizing the full meaning of our nation's creed that all men and women are created equal."

In his current position, Jackson is the principal liaison between the congressional

office and selected cities and groups within the district. He also advises Congressman Peters on local banking, financial services and small business issues.

Prior to joining Peters' staff, Jackson served as the Economic Recovery Coordinator for U.S. Congressman Sander Levin. He also has over 16 years experience in the financial services industry.

Jackson is a product of the Southfield Public Schools, and is very active in the local community. In 2005, he was elected to the Southfield Board of Education where he served as president during the last year of his term. He is active in several community and political organizations including the NAACP.

Following Jackson's presentation, TACOM LCMC Commander Maj. Gen. Michael J. Terry presented him with a two-star note and commander's coin in appreciation of his participation in the program.
