The Detroit Tigers' Winter Caravan visit to the Detroit Arsenal on Jan. 24 helped to kick off the Family & Morale, Welfare & Recreation commercial sponsor and advertiser appreciation ceremony.

The Tigers Winter Caravan stopped by the installation to tour the Ground Systems Power and Energy Lab, a new one-of-a-kind facility that addresses the emerging power and energy challenges facing the Army's next generation of ground vehicles. The players felt the heat when the Power and Energy Vehicle Environmental Laboratory doors were opened to reveal temperatures of 130 degrees. After this demonstration, the players split into groups where they either experienced the effects of cooled vests or operated small robots.

After the GSPEL demonstrations, the Tigers participated in a question and answer session with soldiers, veterans and employees in the auditorium.

"Due to the warm reception your Detroit Tigers received last year, FMWR and the U.S. Army's Detroit Arsenal was selected as a stop for the Detroit Tigers' Winter Caravan again this year!" said George Bournias, Marketing, Advertising & Commercial Sponsorship Specialist. "It is unusual for a location to be visited twice."

After the Detroit Tigers departed the auditorium, FMWR recognized the commercial sponsors and advertisers that support FMWR programs and offerings. Representatives from AFGE local 1658, AUSA - Michigan Chapter, Central Macomb Community Credit Union, Medical Weight Loss Clinic, NDIA - Michigan Chapter, National Coney Island restaurants and Peoples Trust Credit Union all received a certificate of appreciation from the garrison manager.

FMWR consists of Army Community Services, Child, Youth and School Services, Leisure Travel Services, fitness division and operations at Selfridge ANG Base to include golf and Mulligan's restaurant. All of these divisions provide many programs and services to our active duty members and their families as well as veterans and DoD civilians.
