Oktoberfest features food, music at Patriot Club

Put on your dierndl or lederhosen and attend the free Fort Sill Oktoberfest Friday, Oct. 5 at the Patriot Club.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with O'zapft is! (keg-tapping) at 5:30 p.m. by Maj. Gen. Mark McDonald, Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill commanding general.

Beer available will include Spatan Oktoberfest, Hefe Weisse, Shiner Bock and Coors Light. Full bar services will be available throughout the evening, including an assortment of wine.

Traditional German music will be performed by the Oompapa's Polka Band and the 77th U.S. Army Band "Pride of Fort Sill."

Patrons can enjoy a delicious all-you-can-eat German buffet from 5-8 p.m. The menu includes schnitzel, bratwurst, brotchen, sauerkraut, German potato salad and tea or water.

"The meal may count as the monthly free community dinner for members or get all the German food you can eat for $15 for adults, $7.95 for children 6-12 and free for 5 years old and under," said Michael Borden, Patriot Club manager.

A karaoke challenge featuring some of the best performers from post brigades and directorates will take place in the Backbone Lounge downstairs," Borden said. "The winner's brigade or directorate will get $500 in MWR Bucks."

Satisfy your sweet tooth and support family readiness groups at the German Backerei and Sweet Shop in the Fireside Room from 6-11 p.m.

And, the Beer Garden will be open throughout the event for seating, smoking or to enjoy a nice hot meal and cool beer outside, Borden said. Concessions, including schnitzel, bratwurst and pretzels will be available for purchase from 8-11 p.m.
