NEW YORK CITY -- June 14, 2012 marks the U.S. Army's 237th birthday. This year the Army celebrates the Soldiers, Family members, Civilians and Community members who make our Army the Strength of the Nation with special events in New York City on June 14 and June 15. Please mark your calendar to join us for the following events:

EVENT #1

WHAT: Cake-Cutting and Future Soldier Swearing-In Ceremony with the 38th U.S. Army Chief of Staff

WHEN: Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.

WHERE: Duffy Square in Times Square.

EVENT DETAILS: A cake cutting ceremony and Future Solider Swearing-In Ceremony will be led by Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, Chief of Staff of the Army in celebration of the 237th Army Birthday. The birthday cake will be provided by The Cake Boss. The ceremony will feature elements from The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own," members of the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), the 10th Mountain Division and the U.S. Army New York Recruiting Battalion. This event is free and open to the public.

WHAT: Army Birthday Celebration at Bryant Park Lawn

WHEN: Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. (Pre-ceremony pageantry begins at 1:15 p.m.)

WHERE: Bryant Park Lawn, Manhattan, NY, located at 42nd Street and Sixth Avenue/Avenue of the Americas

EVENT DETAILS: An Army Birthday Celebration featuring The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own," the U.S. Army Drill Team, the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps and members of the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard). This event is free and open to the public.

WHAT: Army Birthday Celebration at Times Square

WHEN: Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.

WHERE: An Army Birthday Celebration at Duffy Square in Times Square, Manhattan

EVENT DETAILS: An Army Birthday Celebration featuring elements of The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own," the U.S. Army Drill Team, the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps and members of the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard). This event is free and open to the public.

EVENT #4

WHAT: Army Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the National September 11 Memorial

WHEN: Friday, June 15, 2012 at 10:28 a.m.

WHERE: The 9/11 Memorial, located at the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan

EVENT DETAILS: Lt. Gen. Mary A. Legere, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army for Intelligence (G-2) and members of the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) and The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own" will conduct a wreath-laying ceremony in honor of the 237th Army Birthday and in memory of those lost on Sept. 11, 2001. WHAT: Army Birthday Patriotic Musical Performance at the Statue of Liberty by the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps

WHEN: Friday, June 15, 2012. Performances will be held at 9:15 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

WHERE: Statue of Liberty Plaza near the Flag Pole
