HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--The U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command was featured prominently at the Air, Space, and Missile Defense Association's annual luncheon Jan. 31 at the Von Braun Center here.
Lt. Gen. Richard P. Formica, commanding general, USASMDC/ARSTRAT, was the guest speaker, and command employees received six of the 13 awards handed out.
Formica's speech focused on the command's core tasks and his vision for the command.
"SMDC is a diverse, complex and global command that provides critical capabilities to our Army and to the nation," he said.
Several command employees were honored during the luncheon for their expertise in the space and missile defense community. Command employees who received Technical Achievement awards were: Edwin Barber, Future Warfare Center; Robert O'Connell, Future Warfare Center; and Kevin Nash, Technology Center. Command employees who received Service Excellence Awards were: Paul Page, Future Warfare Center; Cheryl Holbrook, Test and Warfigher Solution Center; and Steve Cayson, Test and Warfighter Solution Center.
In addition, several USASMDC/ARSTRAT employees were elected to the 2011 ASMDA board. Debra Wymer was elected the president, and Stacey McSweeney will continue as the secretary. Other USASMDC/ARSTRAT board members include Kevin Creekmore, Noel Paschal, and Brenda Armstrong.
According to its website, the mission of the Air, Space, and Missile Defense Association is to promote the security of the nation by providing programs and support for activities that contribute to the advancement of a common understanding of the vital importance of air, space, and missile defense systems to our national future.
