May 10, the Army Reserve hosted its annual Enlisted Dining Out at a downtown Atlanta hotel, a military tradition that fosters camaraderie and respect for the role of the NCO. To underwrite the cost of attendance for junior enlisted Soldiers, senior NCOs typically host fundraisers and officers sponsor Soldiers from their staffs.
This year, a new group stepped forward - civilian interns taking part in the Professional Development Employee (PDE) program. The PDEs assigned to Army Reserve Command's Adjutant General (AG) Branch - Janssen Patton, Relandra Rhone and Scott Sutton - held a Spring Social for the entire staff at Fort McPherson to demonstrate their commitment to the team and to celebrate the Army Reserve's birthday.
The social, which included a potluck luncheon, collected more than $200 in donations to help defray the cost for several young Soldiers and give them the opportunity to partake in their first dining out. During the closing of the fundraiser event, the PDEs took a few moments to celebrate the Army Reserve's Birthday.
Sgt. Maj. Anthony Taylor, Army Reserve G-1 sergeant major, Rhone and Patton cut the cake, which read, "Happy Birthday United States Army Reserve."
In addition to goodwill and support for enlisted Soldiers, these interns also bring a variety of experiences to the Army Reserve. Patton is a former National Football League player, Rhone is a recent master's degree graduate, and Sutton is a new attorney. All are training to become Human Resources professionals for the Army Reserve Command.
