Eighth U.S. Army CG hosts annual holiday reception

- Korean and U.S. military leaders from around the Korean Peninsula attended the 8th Army Holiday Reception at the Hartell House Jan. 23.
- Lt. Gen. Joseph F. Fil, Jr., 8th U.S. Army commander, thanked the guests for for helping to strengthen the Republic of Korea-U.S. Alliance.
- The holiday reception is conducted annually by the 8th U.S. Army commanding general.
YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea - Korean and U.S. military leaders from around the Korean Peninsula attended the 8th U.S. Army Holiday Reception at the Hartell House Jan. 23.
Among the guests at the reception were retired Gen. Paik Sun-yup, the first four-star general in the history of the Republic of Korea; Gen. Walter Sharp, United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command and United States Forces Korea Commander; and other Korean and American general officers.
Lt. Gen. Joseph F. Fil, Jr., 8th U.S. Army commander, welcomed the guests and shared his new year's goal to further enhance the friendship of the two nations.
He also thanked the leaders for helping to strengthen the Republic of Korea-United States Alliance and provide stability on the Korean Peninsula.
"The alliance is preparing for a transition in its operational control in April 2012. We are preparing to reposition our forces to two enduring hubs and we are normalizing tours for our service members and allowing them to bring their families here in greater numbers," said Fil. "All of these changes will make our alliance stronger while improving the quality of life for our people here."
The holiday reception is conducted annually by the 8th U.S. Army commanding general.
"On behalf of the 8th U.S. Army and United States Forces Korea, we wish each and every one of you a wonderful new year. Again, Say Hey Bohk Mahn Ee Padh You Say Oh (Happy New Year in Korean)," Fil said.
