WIESBADEN, Germany - The American Women's Activities Germany invites all community members to participate in special day-long conferences aimed at enhancing volunteer skills and opportunities.

Baumholder community members will find a host of training and learning opportunities at the Rheinland-Pfalz Area AWAG Conference to be held in the Landstuhl Combined Club Dec. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

"Everyone is welcome," said Rheinland-Pfalz Area AWAG representative Bridget KAfAPnig, describing the many classes available.

"It's a great way to network," she added, explaining that representatives from both Army and Air Force military communities throughout Rheinland-Pfalz will attend.

Wiesbaden community members are invited to the Hessen Area AWAG Conference Dec. 16 in the Community Activity Center on Wiesbaden Army Airfield.

"The Hessen Area AWAG Conference will be combined with a Wiesbaden Community Spouses Club luncheon and is open community-wide," said Alicia Acevedo, Hessen Area AWAG representative.

"Classes include Building a Strong Community, How to Create a Fantastic Thrift Shop, Challenges in the Volunteer Force and Eating Healthy During the Holidays," said Acevedo, mentioning only a few of the many sessions.

Besides training opportunities, attendees at both conferences will find a host of subject matter experts and speakers on hand to share information about everything from exotic fruits available in commissaries worldwide, financial advice from community bank and credit union representatives, USO and Army Community Service offerings and more. There will also be giveaways during the conferences.

"We'll have a few surprises," said KAfAPnig.

Christi Ham, wife of U.S. Army Europe commander, Gen. Carter Ham, will be the guest speaker at the Hessen Area AWAG Conference, Acevedo said, adding that the theme of this year's event is "Joy to the World ... AWAG is Here ... at Holiday Time."

The Rheinland-Pfalz and Hessen Area AWAG Conferences are preludes to the Germany-wide conference to be held at the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort in Garmisch in May, said KAfAPnig and Acevedo.
