GYEONG-JU, Republic of Korea - Eighth U.S. Army senior leaders reaffirmed their commitment to Army Families during an Army Family Convenant signing ceremony at the 8th Army Commander's Off-site Conference at the Gyeong-ju Hilton Oct. 23.

According to 8th Army personnel chief (G-1) Col. Steve Shappell, the Army Family Covenant was started in 2007 by senior U.S. Army leaders.

"The covenant is not just a piece of paper reflecting great ideals," said Shappell. "The Army has put money, serious money, behind the Army Family Covenant. For 2008, the Army Family Covenant represents $1.4 billion to improve the quality of life for Army families."

According to 8th U.S. Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Joseph F. Fil Jr., the ceremony was an opportunity for commanders, command sergeants major and other leaders to show their gratitude and reaffirm their commitment to Army Families.

"The Army Family Covenant affirms that we will do everything in our power to make the lives of our military families easier," said Fil. "We are working hard in Korea to show our military families through our words and deeds that they have our enduring gratitude and unwavering support."
