RED CLOUD GARRISON South Korea - More than 20 Soldiers came together in the USAG-Red Cloud Bowling Center July 14 to compete in the first Rucksack Bowling Championship for bowling teams and individual bowlers. The idea came from conversations among Ben Cho, USAG-Red Cloud Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation bowling center manager, and regular bowlers who participate in annual bowling league activities, Cho said.

Bowling with a rucksack of 30 pounds or more on one's back causes the bowler to change his usual techniques and habits in bowling because of the balance problems it adds to bowling technique, said Randy Behr, USAG-RC FMWR Sports director. Bowlers have to recalibrate their technique to compensate for the extra weight on their backs, he said.

"Team 1 and 2 place will get gold and silver medals," Behr said. "This includes men's and women's categories. Individual trophies will be given for 1, 2, and 3 for men's and women's for highest scratch scores."

Winners in the individual Men's Division: 1, Gregory Wyrobek with 558 pins, 2, George Weber with 506 pins, 3, Scott Strahammer with 497 pins.

Winners in the individual Women's Division: 1, Kaye Rivera with 406 pins, 2, Michelle Dennis with 336 pins.
