HOHENFELS, Germany -- More than 2,200 soldiers from 10 countries including Italy, the U.S., Canada, Britain, Germany and Slovenia are currently training together in the exercise "Allied Spirit IV," which takes place from January 10 to February 5 at the Joint Multinational Training Command (JMRC) in Hohenfels, Germany.

The goal of the exercise is to increase the level of training of forces belonging to NATO and to work together in the management of crisis scenarios, as well as to test the interoperability of systems and communications security.

For the first time ever, Italy is responsible for providing the command headquarters during this exercise. The Bersaglieri "Garibaldi" Brigade -- implemented with specialized elements from the Artillery Command, the 7th Signal Regiment and other units of the Italian Armed Forces - has been appointed to command a multinational force made up of units from all the countries involved.

Hohenfels' JMRC allows training in realistic scenarios and in poor weather conditions, providing a key opportunity for commanders at all levels to work together and share procedures and techniques while comparing the planning and lead of operations. The strive for the highest levels of interoperability will identify appropriate solutions to current challenges and contribute to raise the level of readiness of the force, ultimately helping the creation of a flexible military tool that is capable of working in any scenario.
