WARREN, Mich. - "This is the best job ever" was the theme at the promotion ceremony for Kristan Mendoza, Army Contracting Command -- Warren executive director.

Mendoza was promoted, Sept. 3, to the Senior Executive Service in a ceremony witnessed by an auditorium full of family, friends and teammates from ACC-WRN and U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command. The ceremony was officiated by Michael Hutchison, deputy to the commanding general, Army Contracting Command.

Mendoza was the ACC-WRN acting executive director for nine months, so the role itself is not new to her. In his remarks, Hutchison praised the job Mendoza has been doing and shared his confidence in her ability to successfully lead ACC-WRN into the future.

"ACC-WRN has a rock-solid reputation. When we picked someone, we wanted to make sure we got the right person to keep that reputation going. And Kris is that right person," said Hutchison.

Harry Hallock, deputy assistant secretary of the Army for procurement administered the oath of office to Mendoza. Hallock was the executive director of ACC-WRN before becoming the DASA (P).

"It made it extra special to have Harry, the previous (Principal Assistant Responsible for Contracting) here to administer the oath," said Mendoza.

Maj. Gen. Gwen Bingham, commanding general, TACOM LCMC, spoke briefly, highlighting what an elite group the Senior Executive Service is, especially for women who make up only about 17 percent of the Department of Army SES members.

"I am beyond happy for our team here. When I first met Kris, I knew that we were in good hands," Bingham added.

Mendoza began her career with the federal government as a GS-2 summer hire. She has spent more than 30 years serving in various positions within the acquisition community, most recently serving as the civilian deputy to the executive director for the Army Contracting Command-Rock Island, Illinois.

"I was sad to leave Rock Island because I enjoyed the position and the people so much, but I'm so happy to be here," Mendoza said. "The entire ACC-WRN workforce accepted me from the moment I arrived. It's so rare to walk into a new position, in a new environment and immediately feel completely at home. I've never experienced such an easy transition."
