REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (Aug. 18, 2015) -- Michael A. Bieri of Redstone Arsenal, Ala., was formally appointed to the Senior Executive Service during a ceremony held August 14 at Bob Jones Auditorium.

Effective June 15, Bieri serves as the director of the Engineering Directorate for the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center.

During the ceremony, AMRDEC Director James Lackey reminded the audience of the federal government's executive core qualifications.

"The ECQ's are leading change, leading people, results driven, business acumen, and building coalitions," Lackey said. "When you think about Mike Bieri, his qualifications, his standards and what the ED mission is all about, he will continue the mission of promoting change in ED."

"But its more than the ECQ's, it's about being an acquisition professional. It's about having an embodiment of the Army Values and Ethics. The Army has put right diligent focus in the civil sector on how we promote those values across the board. Mike embodies what the Army values are all about, both in professionalism and ethics and what the expectations are for senior leaders to promote and foster and continually exhibit as role models of integrity. I have full confidence he will be successful going forward."

Bieri explained that though he envisioned a different future, it was the impact on the Warfighter that motivated his career as a government civilian.

"If you would have told me 30 years ago I would be standing on this stage, I would have told you you'd be wrong," said Bieri. "I was a farm boy at heart. My plan was to work three to five years and move back to the farm. I didn't understand what the civil service was about. When I got here the great leaders, with selfless service, did whatever it took to get the job done and take care of the Soldier. It was inspiring to me and honestly the only reason I stayed."

"Most of my career we've been at war or at conflict throughout the world, so we got to see firsthand our efforts and how it impacted the Soldier. This is truly a great community. The Engineering Directorate, AMRDEC, is a great group of people and I look forward to being a part of the leadership team. Thank you all for everything you've done for me."

A native of Stanley, N.D., Bieri earned a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from North Dakota State University and has worked in a variety of positions at Redstone Arsenal since 1986. Most recently, he served as the deputy for Acquisition and Systems Management, Program Executive Office Missiles and Space prior to becoming the director for AMRDEC's ED.

The Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center is part of the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, which has the mission to develop technology and engineering solutions for America's Soldiers.

RDECOM is a major subordinate command of the U.S. Army Materiel Command. AMC is the Army's premier provider of materiel readiness -- technology, acquisition support, materiel development, logistics power projection, and sustainment -- to the total force, across the spectrum of joint military operations. If a Soldier shoots it, drives it, flies it, wears it, eats it or communicates with it, AMC provides it.
