HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- U.S. Army Materiel Command employees, family, friends and even a few dogs gathered at Monte Sano State Park July 17 for the command's annual organizational day activities.

Gen. Dennis Via, AMC commanding general, expressed appreciation and gratitude to the AMC workforce for their dedication and support to the nation's warfighters.

"I am enormously proud of the complex mission you do, and what our teammates do, both here in the United States and overseas each and every day to support our Soldiers who are deployed forward," Via said. "It's not easy, it is complex, the demand is there and AMC is always there to deliver."

Via also noted it was important to take a break sometimes. He challenged them to "put away the Blackberry, relax and have a good time with family, friends and co-workers."

This was AMC's first organizational day at Monte Sano State Park and nearly 700 employees participated in volleyball, corn hole, horseshoes and other activities. Children took part in hula hooping, water balloon and egg toss competitions.

Via thanked Redstone Arsenal's Directorate of Morale, Welfare and Recreation for their excellent service and support of the event, including lunch and recreational equipment.

"They provide great food, great service and they are available to support you," Via said. "The MWR contributed $2,500 and the Civilian Welfare Fund Council gave $1,500 to support AMC's organizational day."

The donations allowed AMC personnel to attend at a nominal cost.

Monte Sano State Park is located near Huntsville in northeast Alabama. Monte Sano is known for its trails, spectacular views and mineral springs.
