Command Sgt. Maj. Dana S. Mason, Jr. assumed the duties as the U.S. Army Security Assistance Command's command sergeant major in a ceremony Friday at Bob Jones Auditorium. The ceremony was hosted by USASAC commander Maj. Gen. Mark McDonald.

Mason became the second command sergeant major in USASAC's 49-year history.

Mason comes to Redstone Arsenal from Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, where he served as command sergeant major for the 45th Sustainment Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment Command. Mason has also served assignments at the Pentagon, Fort Bliss, Texas, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

"As we move on, we continue to be blessed with successive senior enlisted leaders equally talented and equally prepared and equally ready to continue in the work of providing the best advice, guidance and leadership to the command," McDonald said. "The Soldier we welcome here today is the embodiment of all that. He's a Soldier, a leader and a professional."

Mason, an Ohio native, has nearly 30 years of service with the Army.

"My pledge to you- -- the accomplishment of the organization mission and the welfare of its Soldiers, civilians and Army families -- will always be my top priority," Mason said.

"Command Sgt. Maj. Mason could not have arrived at a more opportune time," McDonald concluded. "We are key players in the Army's Operating Concept 2020-2040, and Command Sgt. Maj. Mason will be joining us as the 'Army's Face to the World.'"
