CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea -- Eighth Army recognized two Soldiers from 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade as Eighth Army's Non Commissioned Officer and Soldier "Culinarian" of the Quarter at the recently unveiled Talon dining facility at Camp Humphreys on Jan. 23.

The awards were presented to the NCO and Soldier who best exhibit excellence in food service knowledge and meal preparation.

The winners from first quarter, Fiscal Year 2015 are Sgt. Dineo Jimmy-Moyo assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 2-1 ADA and Pvt. Maria Aguon assigned to HHB, 6-52 ADA.

Eighth Army opened the competition to all food service specialists within its formation.

"I didn't have much time to prepare" said Jimmy-Moyo. "It feels great to win and at the end of the day, I feel blessed."

Competitors faced a board of Eighth Army food service experts on Dec. 19th at the Rotorwash Café at K-16 Air Base and were presented with a unique challenge: take a mystery basket full of ingredients and create an entrée and a dessert within 90 minutes.

Jimmy-Moyo and Aguon turned their surprise ensemble into an award winning stuffed pork loin dish complete with rice pilaf and for dessert, added a crisp apple cake drizzled with berry sauce.

"It feels amazing" said Aguon, "Winning this competition increases my confidence not only in myself, but also in my professional career."

The culinary tandem is not stopping with their victory in the Eighth Army competition. Jimmy-Moyo and Aguon automatically advance to the Department of Defense competition which will be held at Fort Lee, Virginia March 1-13.

"The 35th ADA BDE's food service team as a whole is one of the best on the Peninsula," said Master Sgt. Christopher Mcmullen, the chief food operations NCO for 35th ADA BDE. "It's clearly evident by the many competitions won in the last two years. We are small in size compared with other commands, but huge at heart."

35th ADA also took home additional honors at the awards ceremony to include sweeping the Area III food service awards.

David Duffie, food program manager at Camp Humphreys Logistics Readiness Center awarded Jimmy-Moyo the title of Area III NCO "Culinarian" of the Quarter as Pfc. Tevin Stinson from HHB, 2-1 ADA earned the title of Area III "Culinarian" of the Quarter. Sgt. Benita Thompson from HHB, 6-52 ADA took runner up in the Area III NCO category and Aguon took runner up in the Area III Soldier competition.

Culinary teams from 35th ADA BDE have won the "Culinarian" of the Quarter award eight times over the last two years as well as the Eighth Army Field Connelly award and the Eighth Army nutrition competition.
