Members of the Armed Forces from the military rehabilitative program played alongside golfers from local business, military, and community partners in the 5th annual Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament on Nov. 14 at the Hoakalei Golf Club in Ewa Beach, Hawaii.

"It's important for our Soldiers to engage on a social level outside of their daily routine. Opportunities like this allow our Soldiers to engage in emotional, mental and physical domains that prove vital to successful transition and recovery," stated Lt. Col. Brian Peterson, Commander, Warrior Transition Battalion (WTB), Schofield Barracks.

Benefits from the tournament, sponsored by consulting firm, Booz Allen Hamilton, go to Salute Military Golf Association, a non-profit corporation whose mission is to provide rehabilitative golf experiences for combat-wounded veterans in an effort to improve the recreational aspects of their lives.

"For our Soldiers, this is more than just a golfing outing…it's about their successful recovery through individual and shared experiences across the broad spectrum of activities, said Peterson. "Our Soldiers are incredibly resilient and took full advantage of the opportunity to compete in a sport that challenges players of every level."

The association provides golf instruction, equipment, and playing opportunities in an effort to improve the mental and physical condition of those injured in combat.

"One out of every three Booz Allen employees is a veteran, and federal government and military are our biggest client. This is an opportunity for our firm to give back to people who have given a lot in service to their country so this is something worthwhile and that we believe is valuable and can help. It's a way to give back," stated Leigh Bender, Hawaii-based Lead Associate at Booz Allen and lead planner for the 2014 Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament.

Peterson expressed his gratitude for the corporate hosts.

"We're very fortunate to have amazing support and commitment from our corporate hosts! They continue to support our wounded, ill and injured Soldiers and we couldn't be more thankful for their commitment to our Soldiers and Families."
