WASHINGTON (Oct. 10, 2014) -- Thousands of runners descended on the southeast region of the Nation's Capital for the beginning of the Army Ten-Miler race expo held Friday and Saturday at the D.C. Armory.

The Army Ten-Miler, now in its 30th year, is the third largest 10 mile road race in the world and all the proceeds from the race go to support Soldier family morale, welfare and recreation activity. More than 35,000 participants have signed up to run in this year's race.

"This will be my first Army Ten-Miler and I'm looking forward to it," said Staff Sgt. Jen Lee, 2014 paralymic gold medalist and representing the Army's World Class Athlete Program. "The expo is going great. We are out here to spread awareness about WCAP."

The expo not only serves as a pickup area for those participating in the Army Ten-Miler, it is also open to the public and features more than 150 vendors, many of whom will be showcasing the latest running apparel.

"The Army teaches you about leadership and teamwork skills," said Lee who represented the U.S.A in sled hockey at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. "Serving and representing my country is a tremendous honor for me. Standing in front of the America flag with the gold medal around my neck was an unforgettable moment."

The Army Ten-Miler starts and finishes at the Pentagon with runners being provided a unique view of the Nation's Capital and its monuments along the race route.
