CAMP HUMPHREYS -- Following an ongoing process of preparing curriculum, files, classrooms and staff that culminated in an intense two-day inspection, June 2-3, the U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys Child Development Center received official notification, in July, that the facility and staff had achieved accreditation.

This accreditation, from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), is valid through Dec. 1, 2019.

This achievement is a significant accomplishment for the center and its teachers.

"The importance and what it means for the facility is that we are among programs that have raised the standard of early childhood programs to the highest possible level and we are recognized for providing quality care for the benefit of the children and families that we serve," said Denise Aguon, Child Development Center director.

The center received several commendations as part of the inspection process, reflecting scores of 100 percent in specified areas that include relationships, assessment, health, teachers, community relationships and leadership and management.

Commendations in these areas mean that the center excels at encouraging each child's sense of individual worth and belonging; using ongoing, systematic, formal and informal assessment approaches; promoting the nutrition, health and safety of children; employing and supporting a teaching staff that has the qualifications to promote children's learning and development; establishing and maintaining reciprocal relationships with support agencies and institutions and administering a inclusive program efficiently and effectively.

NAEYC accreditation of programs for young children represents the mark of quality in early childhood education. NAEYC accreditation began in 1985 with the goal of providing an accrediting system that would raise the level of early childhood programs. As a NAEYC accredited program, USAG Humphreys CDC has proven it invests in early childhood education because it believes in the benefits to children and families.
