ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- The Army Materiel Command Band from Redstone Arsenal, Ala., drew a crowd of more than 300 Quad Cities area residents and arsenal personnel to a concert on the lawn of Historic Quarters One here Aug. 21.

Adverse weather threatened the evening show, but early sprinkles gave way to calm skies as the band went on to entertain the crowd with Dixie and brass band tunes.

The band was at RIA to participate in the Army Sustainment Command's change of command ceremony earlier in the day in which Maj. Gen. John Wharton relinquished command to Maj. Gen. Kevin O'Connell.

George Eaton, ASC command historian, spoke about the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War during intermission.

The event marked O'Connell's first public appearance as ASC's new commanding general.
