Four winners from two Junior Science and Humanities Symposia held in New Jersey visited Picatinny Arsenal July 23 to tour the Innovation Lab and learn about nanotechnologies and 3-D printing.

The Junior Science and Humanities Symposium is a national program that aims to widen the pool of trained talent in the research and development vital to our nation. By promoting original research and experimentation by high school students in the scientific, engineering, and mathematics fields, the program publicly recognizes students for their outstanding achievement.

Students compete in a regional symposium, where they orally present their study and research results. This presentation is judged on factors such as identifying the research problem, use of scientific processes and creative skills, communication skills, research discussion and conclusion, and collaboration with outside sources and assistance.

This year's four winners participated in symposiums hosted by Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J., and Rutgers University in Piscataway Township, N.J. This program is one of many science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs sponsored by the U.S. Army Armament, Research Development and Engineering Center.
