HOHENFELS, Germany (May 16, 2014) -- The U.S. Ambassador to Germany, the Honorable John B. Emerson, visited the Hohenfels Training Area yesterday with members of the German Parliament to see military partnership and cultural exchange in progress at the U.S. Army Europe exercise Combined Resolve II.
Exercise Combined Resolve II is a U.S. Army Europe multinational exercise at the Hohenfels and Grafenwoehr Training Areas, including more than 4,000 participants from 13 allied and partner countries. The first half of the exercise is now underway in Hohenfels, where military will conduct force-on-force maneuver exercises until May 30.
In a recent letter addressed to the Soldiers training here in Bavaria, Emerson said, "The Joint Multinational Readiness Center and the Joint Multinational Training Center at Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels anchor the presence of the U.S. Army in Europe but also provide the specialized training that U.S. and Allied soldiers require. There is no better example of the new NATO than these first-class training centers."
The group heard first hand from the brigade commander of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Col. John Digiambattista. The 1/1 Cav. Div. is currently serving as the European Rotational Force under the Army's Regional Aligned Forces program. Digiambattista explained that the exercise is realistic for his Soldiers because of the many nations participating, just as they have done and will do when deployed.
They also saw and climbed into a variety of multinational combat vehicles from the militaries participating here.
Combined Resolve II runs until June 30 and includes participants from Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Georgia, Hungary, Lithuania, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and the U.S. The exercise will include both combat maneuver training at the Hohenfels Training Area and a "blended" live-fire exercise at the Grafenwoehr Training Area that will include a mix of live, virtual and simulated training environments.
