Armed Forces Day Car Show set for May 17

FORT BENNING, Ga., (May 14, 2014) -- The Fort Benning Sergeant's Major Association will host the fourth annual Armed Forces Day Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 17 at the National Infantry Museum.

Registration for vehicles begins at 8 a.m., while viewing and judging starts at 9 a.m.

"There will be trophies for the top 25 cars and trucks and also for special categories," said retired Command Sgt. Maj. Clyde Glenn, car show planner.

Glenn said categories include Best Car Club Participation, Best in Show, People's Choice, Best Paint, Best Wheels and Best Engine.

"Motorcycles will have a top two in Cruiser, Sport and Custom," he said.

Other events include a military police working dog demonstration at 10:30 a.m., a parachute demonstration by the Silver Wings Parachute Team at 11:30 a.m. and a door prize drawing at 1 p.m.

"There will be plenty of food vendors available to get lunch," Glenn said. "Face painting will be (available) for the kids. (It will be) great fun for the whole Family."

He said all event proceeds go to the local community, to include two $1,000 college scholarships to deserving high school seniors.

"We support two House of Heroes projects and donate to Easter Shoes for Children annually," Glenn said.

"We also donated and maintain four POW-MIA monuments for the Columbus, Phenix City, Andersonville (Georgia) areas."
