ANSBACH, Germany (April 5, 2014) -- Soldiers and family members of the 12th CAB participated in the Ansbach Clean-Up Day April 5, on and around the USAG Ansbach.

The event was a part of the Ansbach Clean-Up Day, on which community members take to the streets and clean up their neighborhoods, roadways, cities, and towns.

The volunteers met outside the theater at Bismarck Kaserne. Reflective vests, trash bags, and trash-grabbing tools were distributed amongst the approximately 80 volunteers. Than everyone was split into eight groups and walked or drove to their designated clean up area.

A new comer to Germany, Pfc. Andrew Bevan said one of his goals is to explore everything he can while stationed here. Bevan, a part of the Griffin Integration Platoon, said he thought this would be a great opportunity to see some of the small towns and meet new people.

The cleanup effort spanned from Sachsen across Katterbach, around the perimeter fences at Katterbach, Bismarck, Urlas and Shipton. Soldiers picked up trash at the Soldier's Lake, along the sides of B-14 and around the bike trails.

"I volunteered a lot back home throughout high school and college," said Spec. Eric Lavelle, an ammunition specialist with Echo Company, 3-159th Aviation Regiment. "I always like helping out the community that I am a part of and I feel like this is the best way to get involved with the community."

At 11:30 a.m., the volunteers met back at the theater where they were presented Certificates of Achievement signed by the 12th CAB Commander, Col. Vincent Torza.

Clean-Up day for community members at Storck Barracks will be on April 26.
