FORT LEONARD WOOD Mo. -- We still have a few more weeks before warm temperatures are here to stay, so dress appropriately for the weather to avoid hypothermia.

Understand that cold weather injuries can sneak up on you.

Several Soldiers here were recently diagnosed with hypothermia, so check the day's temperature and forecast before you leave home.

Being prepared means wearing appropriate clothing for the weather, but it also means keeping yourself dry, hydrated and eating full meals. Cold weather causes your body to need a higher calorie intake to maintain a proper operating temperature, which is more caleries than it normally needs during warmer weather.

As balmy as this week?'s upcoming weather is forecasted to be, winter is not over. We still need to be prepared for the possibility of cold weather injuries.

Temperatures are forecasted to drop below freezing next week, according to this week's forecast which shows daytime highs in the 50s.

Nights next week could drop into the teens.

Hypothermia, by definition, is an abnormally low body temperature of 95 degrees or below. Dressing appropriately for the weather each day will help your body reach and maintain proper temperature.

Know the symptoms of hypothermia:

-- Slowed breathing or heart rate

If you experience these symptomsm, seek medical assistance immediately.

Don't Wait!
