CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea (Nov. 18, 2013) - U.S. and South Korean Army leaders gathered for an alliance festival here, on the future headquarters post for American military forces in Korea, Nov. 15.

Attended by senior leaders from Eighth Army and Third Republic of Korea Army, the festival was held to further strengthen the bonds between the two field armies.

Eighth Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Bernard S. Champoux welcomed senior leaders from the Third Republic of Korea, or ROK, Army to Camp Humphreys.

Champoux thanked leaders from the frontline ROK Army formation for their enduring contribution to peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and in the Asia-Pacific region.

The autumn alliance festival is an annual event. It has previously been conducted at the Third ROK Army Headquarters in Yongin, South Korea.

Commanded by ROK Army Gen. Kwon Hyug-soon, the Third ROK Army serves on the western front of the Korean Demilitarized Zone, the world's most heavily guarded border.

Activated in 1944, Eighth Army liberated more than 60 islands during World War II, served on occupation duty in Japan and commanded all ground forces during the Korean War.

Eighth Army has been the top U.S. Army command in Korea since 1950.
