BAMBERG, Germany (Sept. 25, 2013) -- The city of Bamberg has announced the cancellation of the planned Fall Fest at Zollnerstrasse, originally scheduled to begin Oct. 12.
Despite extensive efforts by the city and the federal German and Bavarian fairground entertainers' association, it was not possible to attract enough vendors and carnival ride owners to conduct a successful fest. Due to scheduling issues, many carnival ride owners had to decline the city's invitation to participate.
"The city and the federal German and Bavarian fairground entertainers' association regret the cancellation of the Herbstplärrer 2013," said a city spokesperson.
Many ride owners had prepared their annual tours in advance and could not participate. In cooperation with the city, the federal and the Bavarian fairground entertainers' association will now put all efforts into the planning of a successful spring fest 2014.
"Some of our Soldiers and Families are, of course, disappointed," said USAG Bamberg garrison commander Lt. Col. Michelle L. Bienias. "We were looking forward to having the fest on garrison grounds this fall. But we completely understand the city's decision and hope for an even bigger event in the spring. The spring fest in May is a perfect opportunity for us to say goodbye to our German hosts, neighbors and friends."
The "Frühjahrsplärrer" is scheduled for May 16 to June 1, 2014.
