ANSBACH, Germany (Sept. 19, 2013) -- During a celebration Sept. 12 at the entrance of the Urlas Main Exchange, the Main Exchange celebrated its one-year anniversary by serving cake to its customers and employees.

The Main Exchange, a 35,000-foot shopping facility at U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach's Urlas Housing features a Post Exchange, a commissary, a food court, several shops and kiosks. The Main Exchange opened Aug. 30, 2012. The Commissary joined the other facilities in February of this year.

"It's become the cornerstone of what we call the best hometown in USAREUR," said Kevin Griess, USAG Ansbach garrison commander. "The best thing about it is what it replaced. It replaced multiple different facilities -- 1930s era -- [with] three times the space. Now it's more efficient, better, higher quality."

"We are here because of you guys, and I want to say thank you," said Naomi Smith, store manager for the Post Exchange. "There is no greater honor than serving those who serve."

Griess and Smith, along with Staff Sgt. Shawn McKenna and Ingrid Parrish, who represented respectively Soldier and civilian customers of the shopping center, cut the cake and served it to Soldiers and customers there during their lunchtime.
