Dental Assistant Training Program

The Katterbach Dental Clinic and the American Red Cross offer a dental assistant training program class beginning Jan. 9, 2014. The program is a free training and volunteer opportunity open to U.S. citizens 18 years and older with a valid military ID and AKO account. Registrants must submit to a selection process, must be able to pass a National Agency Background check, must be able to complete all orientations and medical screenings, must obtain immunizations, must complete 96 hours of class work and chairside coursework without absences, must complete 420 hours of 40-hour work week chairside without absences by May 30, and must be able to travel to Storck and Katterbach dental clinics. No childcare is provided. Applications can be picked up at the Katterbach Red Cross office now through Oct. 17. Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention 5K

Volunteer opportunity, blood drive

The Armed Services Blood Bank Center -- Europe, a division of the Armed Services Blood Program, will conduct a blood drive at USAG Ansbach at Katterbach Physical Fitness Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 8. Community members are not only encouraged to donate but to volunteer checking in donors and offering juice and cookies for two-hour shifts. ISCC Thrift Shop hours

The Illesheim Spouses' and Civilians' Club Thrift Shop has new hours. The shop will be open Tuesdays from noon to 6 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 3 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month from noon to 3 p.m.

Pumpkin festival

The Illesheim Spouses' and Civilians' Club visits the Ludwigsburg Pumpkin Festival Sept. 27. There will be pumpkin sculptures, pumpkin food, pumpkin craft market, a fairytale walk and more. The group will meet at 10 a.m. just inside the southern entrance of the festival. The festival lasts until 8:30 p.m. Those who wish to carpool can meet at Gasthaus Dietz in Illesheim at 8 a.m. The trip is open to all ISCC members and their immediate families. ISCC will have membership forms available for those who wish to join on the spot. The festival itself costs 8 euros for adults, 3.90 euros for children ages 4 to 15, 15 euros for families of one adult and two children, 21.50 euros for families of two adults and two children. 1972 München Olympics attack

The Traveling Book Club's topic for September through November is the terror attack at the 1972 München Olympics. ASCC trip to Nove, Italy

Ansbach Spouses and Civilians Club takes a trip to Nove, Italy Oct. 18 through 20. The trip costs 224 euros per person, which includes round trip bus, two nights at Bassano Del Grappa and two breakfasts and two dinners at the hotel. Storck Warrior Zone hours

Please remember that effective now, the Warrior Zone at Storck Barracks will be in operation with new opening hours. The Warrior Zone will be closed Mondays through Thursdays and be open from 5 p.m. to midnight Fridays, from 4 p.m. to midnight Saturdays and from 2 to 9 p.m. Sundays. CLOSURES AND CHANGES

B14 Resurfacing

Resurfacing of the road that is currently in progress on B14 near the entrance to Urlas Housing and Shipton Kaserne will continue but will move toward the city of Ansbach. Because of this, temporary modifications to normal traffic patterns will take place. Detour signs will be easy to see. There is no date yet as to when the resurfacing of the road will be complete.

Bowling schedule changes

The U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation program is making an immediate but temporary change to the Katterbach Bowling Center's operational hours with the goal to expand services and be open 7 days a week by October. The new limited hours are Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 2 to 8 p.m., Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. and closed Mondays, Tuesdays and U.S. holidays. TRX/HIIT

At Katterbach Physical Fitness Center, Super Circuit with Kate Fridays at 9 a.m. is being replaced with TRX/HIIT with Kate. The new class is geared toward intermediate fitness level participants with some TRX experience. The class combines TRX workouts with bursts of high-intensity cardio. Classes will be held at the TRX frame in front of the Katterbach PFC. Participants should dress according to the weather and the outdoors. The standard $4 class price applies. Oktoberfest

Outdoor Recreation visits the world-famous München Oktoberfest during a trip from 8 a.m. to 11:55 p.m. Sept. 28. Admission is $45 for adults, $35 for children and $109 for families. Sunset paddling

Outdoor Recreation hosts sunset paddling and inline skating Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. for $25 for adults, $15 for children and $59 for families. The evening usually includes time for dinner at a local Imbiss on the river. No experience is necessary and there is no white water. To sign up, call 09802-83-3225 or DSN 467-3225.

Group bike rides

Every Thursday Outdoor Recreation takes a 1.5- to 2-hour bike ride. This is a good way to meet fellow cyclists and learn the surrounding area. The group leaves ODR at 5:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required no later than close of business Wednesday. The trip costs $5 if you wish to rent a bicycle. ESL

English as a second language classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 a.m. at the Katterbach Army Community Service. Wall Street Survivor

Being a designated driver has its benefits. At Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation events, let the FMWR staff know you are a designated driver, receive a wristband and enjoy coffee or sodas on the house.

Ansbach guided tours

Tour Ansbach with a guide every Sunday at 11 a.m. for 3 euros per person. The group meets at the Schlossplatz near the horse sculpture "Anscavallo." English-language tours are by reservation only and must be booked with the Ansbach Tourism Office two weeks in advance. The group rate is 80 euros per group with a maximum of 35 people. Eagle's Nest

The Barton Barracks "Eagle's Nest," located next to Duggan Gym, offers a full working kitchen with an area to seat more than 30 people. The Eagle's Nest is open to all community members. Safety hazard

Between Ansbach and Illesheim, there is a safety hazard on B-13. North of Oberdachstetten there is a steep decline that goes under a railroad overpass. One lane of traffic goes down the hill and two lanes go up. Do not pass.
