For the second year in a row, Brooke Army Medical Center was officially recognized as a "Most Wired Hospital in the United States" from the Hospitals and Health Networks magazine - 2013 Most Wired Survey.
BAMC was one of four Army Medical Command facilities selected out of 1,713 hospitals throughout the United States who submitted the packets. Only 289 hospitals received the recognition.
Other Army facilities selected include: Madigan Army Medical Center at Fort Lewis, Wash., Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg, N.C.; and Tripler Army Medical Center located near Fort Shafter, Hawaii.
The University Health System, a civilian hospital in San Antonio, was the only other hospital in San Antonio that was selected.
The hospitals was evaluated from the four areas of Infrastructure; Business and Administrative Management; Clinical Quality and Safety (inpatient/outpatient services hospital); and Clinical Integration (ambulatory/physician/patient/community).
The nation's most wired hospitals are leveraging the adoption and use of health information technology (IT) to improve performance in a number of areas, noted in the Health Care's Most Wired 2013 Survey.
"The methodology sets specific requirements in each of four focus areas," said BAMC Chief Information Officer, Army Lt. Col. (P) David Broyhill. "If any of these requirements was not met, then the organization did not achieve the Most Wired designation. Thus, an organization may have many advanced capabilities, but have not achieved Most Wired status."
The survey results demonstrate that BAMC, which includes all Army facilities in San Antonio (San Antonio Military Medical Center and Army Outpatient health clinics), is focused on expanding and adopting IT that protects patient data, and optimizes patient flow and communications.
"BAMC's designation as "Most Wired" for the second year in a row underscores our continued commitment to leverage information management/information technology tools and resources to enable, transform, and support our healthcare team to provide exceptional and first-class care to our beneficiaries and our wounded warriors," said BAMC Chief Medical Information Officer, Army Maj. Richard Clark.
"This is a great recognition for the hard work done by numerous individuals," said BAMC Commander Col. Kyle Campbell. "A well deserving acknowledgment in keeping up with the constant change and improvements in information technology -- all with patient satisfaction in mind at all times."
