SPEINSHART, Germany -- The Buergermeister (or Mayor) of Speinshart community, Albert Nickl, and Col. William Glaser, the Joint Multinational Simulation Center (JMSC) commander, met to discuss a future partnership between the two communities, March 10.

Both highlighted the importance of a partnership as a great way to learn about each other's cultures and strengthen the already existing bonds.

Glaser invited Nickl and other Speinshart officials to Grafenwoehr and the JMSC to help them better understand JMSC's mission, which is to train multinational Soldiers using simulations.

Nickl said he is looking forward to welcoming the community's American neighbors to its numerous festivities and events throughout the year.

The Speinshart community is known for its historic monastery and is mainly supported by agriculture; the U.S. military presence in the area is also an economical factor.

Nickl noted, "About 70 German inhabitants are employed with the U.S. Army at Grafenwoehr."

Part of the meeting included a guided tour of the Speinshart Monastery, which dates back to the year 1145, providing Master Sgt. Justin Brekken, JMSC Noncomissioned Officer in Charge, and Glaser and his wife, Kathy, an in-depth view of a local landmark.

Both leaders, Nickl and Glaser expressed interest in the German and American communities working together and sealing the partnership as soon as possible.
