PHILADELPHIA (Army News Service, Dec. 7, 2008)- Army's Collin Mooney set the Academy's single-season rushing record Saturday but Navy's Shun White and Eric Kettani each ran for more than 100 yards and a touchdown as the Midshipmen beat the Black Knights, 34-0, at a sold-out Lincoln Financial Field.
Wearing the new Nike uniforms that featured black jerseys and socks with camouflaged pants, numbers and helmets, Mooney carried 17 times for 54 yards. He increased his season total to 1,339 yards and passed Mike Mayweather's 1990 record by a yard.
For the first time this season, Navy had two 100-yard rushers and White and Kettani helped the Midshipmen rush for 373 yards. White carried 13 times for 148 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown in the first quarter, and also caught a touchdown pass while Kettani registered 24 carries for 125 yards and a third-quarter touchdown.
Quarterback Kaipo Kaheaku-Enhada completed three of 10 passes for 62 yards and the 18-yard touchdown to White while rushing for 48 yards.
Mooney led the Army rushing game with 54 yards while Wesley McMahand carried four times for 38 yards. Quarterback Chip Bowden connected on nine of 16 passes for 52 yards with one interception that was returned for a touchdown. He also rushed for six yards. Jameson Maehler had three catches for 20 yards while Joe LeForte posted three catches for 19 yards. Jameson Carter, Mooney and Dace also had receptions.
Army senior linebacker Frank Scappaticci registered a career-high 15 tackles and had one of three tackles for loss. Linebacker Stephen Anderson had 10 tackles while defensive ends Josh McNary and Victor Ugenyi each had eight.
In front of 69,144 fans that included President George W. Bush, Navy scored in each quarter to win its seventh straight game against Army.
White opened the scoring on Navy's first possession, breaking off a 65-yard run down the visiting sidelines. The first of Matt Harmon's four PAT's gave Navy an early lead.
Harmon kicked a 23-yard field goal late in the first quarter and White stretched the lead to 17-0 when he hauled in a 25-yard scoring toss from Kaheaku-Enhada with 3:18 remaining in the first half.
Kettani extended the advantage with a five-yard run in the third quarter, before Harmon kicked his second field goal, from 26 yards out.
Ram Vela closed the scoring when he returned an interception for a 68-yard touchdown with 31 seconds remaining in the game.
