SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Army News Service, Dec. 13, 2006) - Country music's Lonestar will perform a 45-minute concert in honor of Soldiers and their families after the U.S. Army All-American Bowl game at the Alamodome Jan. 6.

The "Army All-American Tribute to the Troops Concert" will later be broadcast on primetime by American Forces Radio and Television.

Committed to honoring troops for their service to the nation, Lonestar members said they believe there's a powerful link between country music and America's Soldier heroes.

"Soldiers gravitate toward county music because it's about life. Messages in our music resonate with military members because they are real, they tell a story," said Dean Sams, group founder. "We pay tribute to our Soldiers during every performance because we appreciate our military folks, and we want to do our little part to remind everyone of their sacrifice."

The All-American Bowl is one of the Army's highest-profile public-relations events. Some 80 high school football players across the country have been selected to participate.

"To me football is such a great sport because of the whole team concept. I'm excited to be a part of a game that recognizes team ethics by uniting Soldiers and young players," said Sams. "It's going to be over-the-top cool."

San Antonio's Alamodome has been home to the Army All-American Bowl since 2002. The game gives fans the chance to see tomorrow's college and NFL stars as the nation's top 80 high school stars go head-to-head in a classic East vs. West battle.
