Veterans Day activities for the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command kicked off Nov. 5 with parades in both Athens, Ala., and Colorado Springs, Colo.
In Athens, Lt. Gen. Richard P. Formica, SMDC commanding general, his wife, Diane, and Col. Daniel Shanahan, former SMDC chief of staff, attended a Veterans Day breakfast at the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives and rode in the town's Veterans Day parade.
In Colorado Springs, Soldiers from the 1st Space Brigade marched in the parade led by their commander, Col. Eric P. Henderson.
These activities began a week full of events in honor of Veterans Day for all the communities for which the command is a part.
