Fort Stewart held a grand opening and ribbon cutting for a new child development center at building 7100, Dec. 21. The facility serves as a daycare for children of Soldiers.
"We worked very hard to get everything done the last few months," said Katherine Cubi-Garcia, a pre-toddler lead. "We are very excited and happy to have this event today."
For Cubi-Garcia, this facility, and the other facilities on post, are there to help Soldiers and their Families.
"Our Soldiers are always deployed," she said. "Basically it's one year here, one year overseas. We try to provide the best facilities for our children. We want to give them the safest facilities so the parents can deploy and not worry about their children. That is our goal."
Takisha Tanner, acting director for the center, was happy to have the center open and that the project was finally complete.
"I feel great, we all feel great," she said. "We're glad that once everything is settled we can get all the kids in and do what we're supposed to do and take care of the children."
Brigadier General Jeffrey Phillips, deputy commanding general, Command Sgt. Maj. Jeffrey Ashmen, command sergeant major of the 3rd Infantry Division, Col. Kevin Milton, Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield garrison commander and Command Sgt. Maj. James Ervin, Stewart - Hunter garrison command sergeant major, were on hand for the ceremony.
