FORT EUSTIS, Va. - A retention awards ceremony luncheon presented by the 3rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), Fort Knox, Ky., the higher command headquarters for the 7th Sustainment Brigade, recognizing the brigade's retention achievements for FY 10, took place Dec. 9 at the Resolute CafAfA on Fort Eustis.

"Retention success is a direct result of the leaders in the unit," said Sergeant Maj. Brian Sellers, command career counselor, 3rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary).

The brigade has nearly 4,300 assigned troops, 811 of those Soldiers reenlisted during FY10 with 57 of those transitioning into the reserve component upon the completion of their active duty contract. The brigade's 24th Transportation Battalion and the 335th Transportation Detachment along with the brigade itself made a clean sweep winning top awards in the five categories as they competed alongside the 3rd ESC's two other sustainment brigades and more than 120 companies.

Brigadier Gen. Robin B. Akin, commander, 3rd ESC, presented the awards to brigade leaders and retention Noncommissioned Officers.

"We know we have good quality Soldiers in our formation," said Akin. "The 7th Sustainment Brigade took the team approach and made it (retention) happen."

The luncheon began with an invocation provided by Chaplain, (Maj.) Thomas Allen, 7th Sustainment Brigade chaplain. Following Allen, remarks were provided by Sergeant Maj. Brian Sellers, command career counselor, 3rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) and the presentation of the awards.

The awards in order of precedence are as follows:

3rd ESC First Sustainer Award (Brigade Level) - 7th Sustainment Brigade

3rd ESC Top Sustainer Award (Brigade Level) - 7th Sustainment Brigade

3rd ESC Sustainer Award (Brigade Level) - 7th Sustainment Brigade

3rd ESC Top Sustainer Award (Battalion Level) - 24th Transportation Battalion 'Leaders'

3rd ESC Top Sustainer Award (Company Level) - 335th Transportation Detachment 'First and Finest'
