FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Fort Wainwright Soldiers and their families joined in the Golden Days celebration in Fairbanks July 21-25. The annual event notes the discovery of gold and subsequent founding of Fairbanks.
The celebration includes a senior citizens' luncheon, Grizzliest Alaskan contest (looking for the hairiest legs, bushiest beard, craziest beard and ugliest feet), kids' games, log-splitting and sawing competitions, the Red Green Regatta (a river float using boats made primarily of duct tape), music and more.
The annual event is an opportunity for Soldiers and their families to join their civilian neighbors in celebrating the city's history.
