FORT RILEY, Kan. - Fort Riley launched a new e-mail notification service - Stay In Touch with Fort Riley - June 15. The service, which was funded through the Army Family Covenant, replaces a former system.
During the most recent Army Family Action Plan last fall, an issue arose regarding the former In Touch e-mail notification system, which was discontinued in May 2009.
"At the October 2009 AFAP Conference, members of the installation support services work group agreed upon the priority of a central resource at Fort Riley or within the Department of Defense for Soldiers and Families to get information about upcoming events or services on post and in surrounding communities," said Steve Elstrom, website developer, U.S. Army Garrison Public Affairs Office.
Stay In Touch with Fort Riley, powered by GovDelivery, will provide information about upcoming events or services on post and in surrounding communities.
"Knowing users wanted the ability to have information pushed to them versus pulled from the official website inspired PAO staff to research many alternatives, settling on a service powered by GovDelivery and used by many other federal agencies and allowing synergy amongst those agencies," Elstrom said. "For example, when a user signs up to receive updates about the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley calendar, he or she will next view a menu of topics available from agencies such as Tricare, Veterans Health Administration or DoD. This email notification or customized RSS feed allows the user to customize and manage the information they receive from Fort Riley."
Options for on-post notifications include but are not limited to Army Community Service; Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers; Child, Youth and School Services; social media; advisories; and employment notifications.
Those signing up also will have the option to choose how often they receive notifications - immediate e-mail delivery, daily digests, weekly digests or even a personalized RSS feed.
The system will allow timely communication to subscribers of changes for ceremonies, classes and more, Elstrom said.
