CONTINGENCY OPERATING LOCATION TAJI, Iraq - Cpl. Terrance Clausell, a native of Mobile, Ala., and a 498th Transportation Company, 541st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 15th Sustainment Brigade, 13 Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), heavy equipment operator, came in third place overall in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. observance day five kilometer run here Jan. 18.
Clausell, who ran with service members and civilians from all over Taji, including some local Iraqis, had a run time of 20:24.
The eventful morning started at 6:00 a.m. with early registration and the first 100 participants receiving free t-shirts. Each participant registered in their age group and received numbered tags to identify them as they ran to the finish line. Prizes for first, second and third place winners included gift certificates from the Postal Exchange, a portable DVD player, and more.
"Being able to participate and complete this event was indeed fun. Not only that, but it had a special meaning to me as well, seeing that we can all come together, not only as Americans, but other nationalities as well," Clausell said.
Staff Sgt. LaShonda Williams, a 498th Trans. Co. squad leader and Ridgeville, S.C., native, said Clausell is known in his unit as a Soldier who is always thinking of others.
"It doesn't matter if it's taking the time to help prepare other Soldiers for the [army physical fitness test] or needing someone to help with morale and motivation, Cpl. Clausell is that type of Soldier," she said.
