PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. - Installation Families got their first glimpse of Picatinny's new $5 million School Age Services and Youth Services Facility during a Army Family Covenant signing and town hall meeting at the facility here Dec. 17, 2009.

While the School Age Services facility is not scheduled to become operational until February, the facility was displayed during the covenant signing attended by approximately 60 installation members.

Brig. Gen. Jonathan A. Maddux, the installation's Senior Military Commander, Lt. Col. John P. Stack, the installation's Garrison Commander and Command Sgt. Maj. Scott E. Koroll, the installation's Command Sergeant Major, signed the covenant pledging their commitment to support Picatinny's Soldiers and their families.

Once the School Age Services facility opens next month, it will serve children ages four through 18, said Arlene Parsons, Child and Youth Services Director here.

In addition to the School Age Services and Youth Service Facility, a second building is being constructed next door, which will serve as a day care facility for children ages infant to three years old.

The cost of this second facility is $1.8 million.

"The new facilities not only provide much needed childcare for our military and civilian workforce, but also increase programming options for school age, middle school and teen youth with the addition of a gym for sports activities, a state of the art demonstration kitchen for cooking activities and an additional computer and homework lab," said Pat McKenna, Child and Youth Coordinator here.
