DIYALA, Iraq (Dec 18, 2009) -- Secretary of the Army John McHugh visited Soldiers at Forward Operating Base Warhorse in Diyala Province today as part of his eleventh visit to Iraq and first as the Army's top leader.

The secretary was welcomed by Soldiers of the 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, who organized an equipment showcase in order to give him a first-hand look at the various vehicles used during daily operations.

Of particular interest to the secretary was the performance of the unit's Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected vehicles. In addition, the secretary visited the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flight line where he was briefed about the capabilities of the vehicle. McHugh then personally helped launch an awaiting UAV.

The Secretary was honored to meet with a select number of Soldiers to whom he awarded two Bronze Star Medals, three Combat Action Badges and one Combat Infantry Badge.

He then took the opportunity to administer the oath of enlistment to eight Soldiers within the Brigade.

Later, McHugh addressed the Soldiers of 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment. During his remarks, he thanked them for their service and highlighted the importance of what they're doing in Iraq.

"Today as each Iraqi wakes up with a new opportunity for a better future, they owe it to good people like you," he said.
